Hi there – thanks for checking out The Tofu Travels!
I’m Melissa – a tofu-eating, vegetable-loving writer, traveler and nutrition student. I love falafel, blackberries and almond croissants. I’ve been known to wax poetic about chia seeds (they’re so tiny and nutritious!) and have a special place in my heart for anything French. In my spare time, I try my hand at gardening, practice yoga & dream about new places to visit. This world we live in is truly beautiful and I feel fortunate to be able to explore it.
I started this blog as a way to share my adventures in travel and to learn to cook from different cuisines around the world. Vegetarianism has a way of opening your eyes to a whole new way of cooking. It’s part of the reason I’m glad I stopped eating meat 6-or-so years ago. Nowadays I eat fish occasionally, but mostly focus on plant-based protein sources.
Recently, I began the journey of going back to school to become a registered dietitian. I knew I wanted to combine my love of food with my passion for health and wellness. I believe whole-heartedly in nourishing our bodies with food that tastes good. That said, it helps to remember that life, including our health and wellness, is all a balancing act. And in the spirit of balance, I’ll share some recipes here that are meant to be indulgent, while others are shared for their health benefits. Some are both! Either way, I’ll only post things that are delicious.
So that’s what you’ll find here – a little mash up of veggie recipes, travel tales and a dose of nutrition. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!
